They set their hearts about to restore the glory of the Ciliegiolo, showing the world the remarkable qualities for this ancient grape.
Their first bottle was released in 1997 and since then, the wines have just been getting better and better.
Today some 18 ha are planted and they produce around 60 000 bottles a year. The vine yards are planted with Greco, Trebbiano Toscano and Trebbiano Spoletino, Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Merlot and Alicante.
Everything is grown organically with strong ties to biodynamic production - here it is the grapes that talk.
The whole concept started 8 years ago - a small group of fellow wine producers meet on the terrace for a little informal get together. To make it easy for everybody - everyone would bring a little to eat - and this is basically still the concept - come along and bring some food.
This is where the guests take over the kitchen - nobody brings just a salad....no they start to really cook.....deep fried fish and shrimps, frittata with mushrooms, baccala, sarde in saor, porchetta, various cuts of salumi, cheeses, sausages, steaks, polpette, pickled veggies, pies and tarts - you name it - it was there - and of course also "La Pasta"
after all the eating, walking in the vineyards, tasting the new vintages from the barrel, a little bit of singing and dancing - it was time to drive back to Todi.
if you are in the area of Pitigliano - don't miss out on a visit to Sassotondo - taste the wines and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
